Dyslexia Testing

Have You Always Wondered Why You Struggle To Read, Write, Or Express Yourself?

Do you find that taking tests or finishing exams and assignments takes you longer than it should? Are spelling errors a common occurrence for you? Do you procrastinate and avoid reading or writing because you’re frustrated or even embarrassed that you find these tasks so difficult?

Maybe you feel ashamed because your struggles with reading and writing make it challenging to keep up academically with your friends. Or perhaps you feel like you have to hide your challenges from others or constantly explain yourself.

Living with a condition that’s gone undiagnosed for years can feel lonely, complicated, and frustrating. Deep down, you desire to know how your brain works and what you can do to succeed.

What The Signs And Traits Of Dyslexia Look Like

You may be experiencing difficulties with accurate word recognition and phonological awareness. Reading for you may be slow and require a lot of effort when compared to everyone else. Additionally, you probably struggle with your writing skills, resulting in frequent spelling or grammatical mistakes and disorganized work.

Right now, you probably feel frustrated and fatigued because no matter how hard you try, you don’t believe you are intelligent. It’s been tough trying to get by in school, and you may feel like you’re being left behind.

Unfortunately, lack of self-confidence, embarrassment, miscommunication, avoidance of certain tasks, isolation, and even anxiety are probably feelings you’re all too familiar with.

At Neuron & Rose Psychological Services, we recognize the multifaceted impact of dyslexia on your life and utilize our assessments and evaluations to provide the support and guidance needed to address the challenges you face — while also focusing on the strengths you possess. For example, dyslexic folks often have incredible visual-spatial abilities, and entrepreneurial tendencies, and can excel in creative pursuits.

You’re Not The Only One — Dyslexia Is More Common Than You May Think

One in every five people has dyslexia. It affects 20 percent of the population, or more than 40 million US adults—with only two million receiving an accurate diagnosis. It is the most common learning disability. Dyslexia represents approximately 90 percent of people who have learning disabilities. (1)

Our Culture Has Created A Stigma Surrounding Learning Differences

In today’s ‘forward-thinking’ society, there’s a pervasive stigma surrounding learning differences, including dyslexia. Many people lack the knowledge of what dyslexia truly is. If you suspect you have dyslexia, you are probably subjected to harmful stereotypes and misconceptions. Often unfairly labeled as slow, lazy, or not smart enough when, in reality, you possess unique talents, creativity, and exceptional problem-solving skills.

Having dyslexia isn’t a measure of intelligence, but rather, it is a different way of learning. One of the challenges dyslexic people face is that the disability is not readily visible to others. Consequently, you may find yourself in the position of repeatedly having to explain yourself to others.

Furthermore, there needs to be more access to the support, resources, and accommodations required to thrive academically and in your daily life.

Seeking dyslexia testing can provide you with an accurate diagnosis, helping you gain a deep understanding of your unique challenges. It's a crucial step towards discovering how to accommodate your learning style and working with your brain's many strengths.

Dyslexia Testing Is Crucial In Enhancing Your Learning Abilities

At Neuron & Rose Psychological Services, our comprehensive dyslexia assessment and evaluation process paves the way for you to finally get an accurate diagnosis. In this space we have created, we can help you explore and understand what dyslexia is, what your needs are, and how you can comfortably navigate life with it.

Our Dyslexia Testing Process

Here at Neuron & Rose Psychological Services, the clinical interview is the initial step in dyslexia testing. During this interview, a qualified professional engages in conversation with you to gain insight into your experiences, challenges, and any concerns related to reading, writing, and spelling. This helps us establish trust and understanding of your perspective regarding your challenges.

We also explore your personal history as this is crucial to understanding your family history of learning differences and any environmental factors that may have influenced your reading and writing abilities.

Following this, a cognitive assessment is conducted. This is designed to evaluate various cognitive functions that may be related to dyslexia. Cognitive tests examine areas such as memory, processing speed, attention, and executive functions. It also helps to identify your mental strengths and weaknesses, which can inform intervention strategies.

We also conduct achievement tests to assess your academic abilities. Achievement testing may identify discrepancies between cognitive abilities and academic achievement, which can be a telltale sign of dyslexia.

With us, it's not just about pointing out the challenges. We're all about finding solutions and strategies tailored just for you. Whether developing new skills or identifying what works or doesn’t work for you— we're here to support your journey toward your goals.

We're also neurodiversity-affirming. That means we celebrate and appreciate the unique way your mind works. We get that having dyslexia comes with its own set of challenges, but we're here to help you understand yourself better and embrace your strengths (and there are many of them). Our goal is for you to leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and your incredible mind.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dyslexia Testing…

Do I need a formal diagnosis for dyslexia?

A formal diagnosis may provide access to other services, supports, and accommodations. If you aren't planning to access these services, then a diagnosis may not be necessary.

Can I get a dyslexia assessment done quickly if I have an upcoming test, such as the GRE?

Our testing process typically takes about 6-8 weeks, including report writing. Additionally, standardized testing companies have deadlines for accommodation requests well before testing dates. Plan accordingly to ensure adequate time for the testing process and accommodation application.

Will the tests be hard?

Some of the tests and questions might be easy for you, and some may be a little harder. Remember that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and it's okay not to excel in everything. We can adjust the pace and provide breaks as needed during the assessment.
